After a selftitled EP on CD-R (2001) and his full-length debut "Zwei" (2003) Matthias Lehrberger is back with another KAUFHAUS-album and a shopping bag full of finest electronica, excellent beats and this time a considerable amount of accoustic instruments (drums, trumpet, melodica, guitar...). "Zufall Für Alle" (Coincidence for all) is a thrilling trip through psychedelic soundscapes paired with poetic jazz themes.
The first track “b---werk” starts with a rather headstrong moog line which after a few bars is embedded in waves of vibraphone glissandos and a lose snaredrum. This part is followed by a Wah-Wah melody that builds a bridge to the next track “moftal” which is dominated by a feverish click beat. Surprising breaks, crossfades and incorporated parts give the album a collage-like flair which actually makes it irrelevant to isolate single tracks. “Zufall für alle” functions more as a coherent story or a painting. Matthias Lehrberger studies fine arts in Munich, maybe that´s not coincidence. Listening attentively it is easy to get absolutely lost in the different levels of moods that the album creates. Silent parts make you drift away into a kind of psychedelic twilight zone, but just in time a sad, but uplifting trumpet solo may bring you back to daylight with rain dripping on the windowpane. Other parts develop kicking grooves by accoustic drums or sampled beats. All these parts are masterly woven together to make a breathtaking journey through sounds and moods.
