What we hear on Sugar Rails, The Marble Man´s debut album are primarily songs - great songs, authentic songs, cleverly arranged around accoustic guitar and English vocals. Other instruments like drums, second guitar, organs, harmonica and accordion are all recorded by Josef Wirnshofer aka The Marble Man himself, except of two guest appearances by his live band members greg d. (bongos) and Daniel Mannfeld (accordion). The melancholy clarity that runs through most of the songs may remind of songwriters of the late 60´s/early 70´s like Nick Drake, but 90´s Indie Rock is also inherent in some parts. Every single melody part and instrumental lick proove the composer´s good taste, so do the lyrics. Lines like "the parrot on the bannister ain´t tired of cracking jokes while you pass by" or "these paint-by-numbers paintings stay incomplete" alone make this album a must-have.
